I recently came into contact with Madison Barr and asked her a little bit about her blog, You're The Way. She was gracious enough to tell me about her creative work, what inspires her and how she's discovering likeminded individuals through creatives platforms such as Instagram and her blog.
Here are some quick facts about Maddy
1. She considers tie-dye a neutral
2. Feels spiritually connected to Phoebe Buffay
3. Is currently residing in New York with her best friend
4. Considers herself a terrible listener
5. Worships Jimi Hendrix
Discovering Maddy on Instagram was like getting a really small view into her life. I could tell that her sense of style was unique, she lived in a big city and ran her own blog. It wasn't until I contacted her that I discovered she watches Friends or that she loves music from the 60's and we had more common interests than I would have ever guessed form scrolling through her Instagram feed.
Maddy's blog gives a deeper look into what she's passionate about and what her interests are. Her blog posts range from self love discussions to New York City guides and odes to 2016. She explained to me that the reason for starting her blog was to give herself a platform for expressing vulnerability, something that she seemed to struggle with. Her blog began as an online public diary and she was intrigued by the thought of strangers reading her entries. While in her everyday life she struggled with vulnerability she never hesitated to make herself vulnerable online and confided in the Internet. Aside from wanting a platform to express herself, Maddy felt as though there wasn't enough "out there" concerning her interests and the topics she cared about. Reading magazines targeted at younger girls didn't feature content that interested her and so she decided to create that content for herself and other likeminded people. Maddy is part of a movement of women creating genuine material for a generation that is starting to care less about tabloids like "How To Contour Like Kylie Jenner" and "Why The Weeknd and Bella Hadid REALLY Broke Things Off". Maddy's blog is a perfect example of the authentic self expression and positive influence that so many people are looking for and so many people need.
